Ekk Deewana Tha, romantic album : A R Rahman

Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, who chose to release the music of his recent film, Ekk Deewana Tha at the Taj Mahal in Agra, says that after a long time, he’d had the chance to compose music for a film featuring young actors.

“This is my favourite romantic album in recent times. While I have been doing music for many fresh actors, I hadn’t composed a fully romantic album in quite a while,” says Rahman, whose earlier films like Imran Khan’s debut in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na (JTYJN, 2008), and Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar this year, had not much scope for romance.

Ekk Deewana Tha is a musical love story between Sachin (Prateik Babbar) and the confused yet headstrong Jessie (Amy Jackson). The film delves into the highs and lows of being in love along with the pains and pleasures associated with it. “For me, the subject and scope of music are most important,” says Rahman.

The composer is said to be impressed with young Prateik since his first film, JTYJN. A unit insider reveals, “It was Rahman who recommended Prateik’s name for the film.”

Prateik is also one among millions of Rahman fans. The actor, last seen in My Friend Pinto this year, is overtly excited to get an opportunity to work with Rahman at.. such close quarters.

However, Prateik confesses always being in awe of the maestro. “I was always a fan of Rahman sir, but now I’m his complete deewana (fan).”

Directed by Gautham Menon, the film is set to hit theatres on January 13, next year.
