Director Luv Ranjan, who tasted success with his coming-of-age film, Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011) is set to continue the franchise. “I am definitely doing Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 either by the end of this year or early next year,” says Ranjan. The original film revolved around three roommates,
whose lives change after they fall in love. It featured Kartik Tiwari, Rayo Bakhirta, Divyendu Sharma, Sonalli Sehgall, Nushrat Bharucha and Ishita Sharma. However, the director doesn’t want to work on the sequel immediately.
So he is making a love story, Akashwani, retaining one of the lead pairs — Kartik and Nushrat — from his debut film. “It becomes very boring if we make Pyaar Ka Punchnama and a sequel immediately after that and so on. That’s the reason I am deviating and making a romantic film in the interim,” says Ranjan.
Ask him if there is any particular reason to rope in the same pair and Ranjan says, “I like them and that’s why I cast them in my film. I had them on my mind while I conceived the idea.”
The director is planning to release Akashwani either in July or September. “When you know that every month there are four to five films releasing it becomes very difficult to lock a release date, especially when the film has fresh stars.”
Prod him on whether he has vouched to make films only with fresh faces and he replies, “It’s easier to work with new actors. They are willing to work hard. Secondly, God has been kind enough to give me success with budding actors. So as long as I can make a film with newcomers and entertain the audience, I will continue doing it.”
